Last week I developed my mission statement and chose a quote that aligns with my goals for this year in my Independent Study and Mentorship class. With my goals clear, I spent this past week working on a series of introductory works regarding personal branding and topic. I began by exploring the inner workings of personal branding and what choices I should make to present myself appropriately to potential connections. How should I paint my picture? I used this knowledge to curate a personal color scheme that I can apply to all my future works in ISM. I also delivered my first speech of the year, and I look forward to improving with the help of my received feedback. One stroke of the brush. After hearing about the ISM 2 students’ experiences, I began to work on my LinkedIn profile and digital portfolio. It was a little challenging crafting my LinkedIn profile at first, but I was able to receive advice from my ISM 2 mentor. At times I would get discouraged by the seemingly never-ending list of accomplishments I saw on my peers’ profiles, but I reminded myself that we may all be at different stages and that is okay! I should only be more excited to work on my own projects. A few more strokes on the canvas. I also realized that ISM requires great organization for such projects and research, so I got to work on my digital portfolio. I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to work site-maker, but I managed to translate my intended color scheme and story into an ordered site. With my new portfolio and LinkedIn profile, I hope to connect with people in my researched field and gather information to share. This week I plan on working on my first research assessment of the year and getting to know my classmates. I will continue to paint my story on the canvas.
