Over the past week, I began research for my final product and prepared for our gallery
walk. I was able to speak with my mentor and discuss our final product plans. I went in with
some ideas but I was very glad to hear his insight. He spoke about multiple prevalent topics in
pediatric anesthesia, all of which allowed me to go beyond general knowledge like I had
intended. We spoke about treating the whole family, anesthesia awareness, and, what we are
going to focus on, neurodevelopmental outcomes. When he had introduced this topic to me, I felt
somewhat familiar with the ideas because of my knowledge in psychology. For example, the
brain’s most impactful period is in the first four years of life, which prompts such a discussion on
anesthesia’s long-term effects on brain development. I am very excited to see where we can go
with this topic, but for now, I will complete analyses of sources. Also last week, I began
preparing for our Wakeland Gallery Walk this week where we can practice before Research
Showcase. I am happy with my display board and I will be prepared to speak around it to those
who are interested.
