Over the past week, my classmates and I prepared for the upcoming deadlines and dates.
We looked forward to showcasing our display boards, OW presentations, and January etiquette
meal. When brainstorming for my display board, I looked to past ISM student boards for
inspiration. I determined what pieces I wanted to display to begin: quote, mission statement,
topic proposal, mentor bio, and original work. After organizing the necessities, I wanted to add
my creative touch to the board. I remembered how some child life specialists show young
patients medical procedures on toys, so I played around with that fact. I created a teddy bear
under anesthesia and on the operating table, and I am happy with the result. The fuzzy teddy bear
fur, soft clothing, plastic mask, and paper bedding added texture to the board. I believe this
addition made it much more interesting than simply drawing the representation. In addition to
displaying what we have done on our board, ISM students will display everything in our
presentations this week. I outlined my slides and what topics I would talk about. Doing this, with
the time limit in mind, I concluded that there may be better options than working from a script.
Writing a script for an 18-20 minute presentation would take much longer, and I am sure if I have
my points, I can speak about everything in ISM thus far with no problem. Not having to stick to
a script also enables me to speak much more calmly, unlike my usual manner of almost rapping
like Eminem. I plan to practice this presentation and celebrate the milestone with my classmates
at our etiquette meal later this week.
